Chapter name: Girls and their Pearls

Elizabeth (picture on left) has such panache and charisma and took over from me as Chapter Queen in July, so she has become Queen Elizabeth.   I thought Queen Elizabeth II, was a good idea, as she is the second queen of the chapter, but maybe it was a little too cheeky.

Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan. They believed that silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since they were all in it together, they might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, they shared a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences, and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes them next.  We, in Brisbane, Girls and their Pearls, decided to join them.

The standard answer to the question, "What do you do?" is... Nothing

We are the mothers, grandmothers, and daughters of society.  Little girls grow up, but they're never too old to play dress-up and have tea parties.

Our main responsibility is to have fun! We see this group as an opportunity for those who have shouldered various responsibilities at home and in the community their whole lives, to say goodbye to burdensome responsibilities and obligations for a little while. This is the place to have fun and enjoy yourself. The refrain of the popular Red Hat Society theme song by Mike Harline puts it rather bluntly: "All my life, I've done for you. Now it's my turn to do for me."
